The topping-out ceremony is one of the most important traditional events in the construction industry, held when the building’s structure reaches its highest point. This moment is not only a technical milestone but also a shared celebration: it provides an opportunity for the developer, contractors, and professionals involved in the project to look back together on the work completed so far.
According to tradition, a decorated wreath or garland is placed at the highest point of the building at this time, paying tribute to the builders’ work and expressing gratitude for the coordinated effort that has characterized the project’s progress to date.
At the Dreher Breweries Ltd. construction site, the topping-out ceremony took place in a fitting setting and a festive atmosphere, where those involved in the project could celebrate the achievements to date together. As the highlight of the ceremony, the wreath was placed on the highest point of the building, symbolically marking the completion of a key phase of the structural work.
The general contracting for the project is being carried out by a consortium of Grabarics Kft. and Weinberg Kft. The collaboration between the two companies provides a solid professional foundation for the high-quality and on-schedule implementation of the project.
The speeches delivered at the ceremony also clearly reflected the significance of this collaboration.
In his speech, Mike James, CEO of Dreher Breweries Zrt., emphasized the importance of the investment and its role in the future operation of the brewery, and spoke highly of the work done by the teams involved in the project.
István Derczó, founder and owner of Weinberg Kft., highlighted the efficient and smooth collaboration with the Grabarics team and thanked everyone who has contributed to the project’s progress for their efforts to date.
Gábor Grabarics, owner of Grabarics Kft., noted that construction is proceeding according to plan and on schedule, which is the result of the coordinated efforts of the professionals involved in the project.
Following the topping-out ceremony, the participants continued the program in an informal setting, which provided an opportunity to strengthen professional relationships and celebrate the achievements made so far together.
Background of the project
The development of Dreher Breweries aims at the comprehensive technological modernization of the brewery. In the first phase, a new cellar and energy block is being constructed, which will be a key element of the brewery’s future operations.
Construction began in January 2025, and through coordinated efforts, the project has since reached the top of the tank farm, which stands at a height of 22.6 meters.
Numerous technical challenges had to be overcome during the project’s implementation. Construction is taking place above the Kőbánya underground system, which required special foundation solutions. The buildings are being constructed with pile foundations, totaling approximately 2,530 running meters in length, and are being realized using state-of-the-art hybrid structural solutions.
The tank farm building deserves special attention, as its floor structure is 1.5 meters thick and was constructed using a significant amount of reinforcing steel and concrete.
Construction is taking place while the plant remains in continuous operation, which requires exceptional organizational and technical expertise.
