Hamburger Hungária handed over its new

Hamburger Hungária, a member of the Prinzhorn Group inaugurated today its new power plant built within the premises of the Dunaújváros Paper Fatory at a cost of HUF 45 billion.

The new power plant was inaugurated by dr. László Szabó, deputy minister of foreign affairs and trade and Thomas Prinzhorn. Inaugural speech was given also by dr. András Aradszki, Secretary of State for Energy Affairs, dr. Dénes Galambos, MP of Dunaújváros, Cord Prinzhorn, CEO of Prinzhorn Group, Attila Bencs, managing director of Hamburger Hungária and dr. Zoltán Szikra, managing director of Hamburger Hungária Power Plant.

The HUF 45 billion (EUR 160 million) CHP (Combined Heat and Power) co-generating power plant utilizes solid fuels, incl. paper factory wastes, biomass and coal. The cutting edge power generating facility produces heat and electric energy sufficient for the operation of the paper factory and ensures also the utilization of formerly dumped wastes.

By creating new workplaces, the new power plant significantly contributes to strengthening the economy of the neighboring area: on the average, 300 persons were employed during the phase of implementation and, following the commissioning, approx. 60 new jobs with prominently high wages are offered to able and competent candidates. As a result, Prinzhorn Group shall employ in Dunaújváros more than 550 persons. In addition, the power plant shall make use of the services offered by numerous private undertakings active in Dunaújváros and in Hungary.

Our company started the construction of the CHP power plant designed to burn solid fuels in the Dunaújváros-based factory of Hamburger Hungária Ltd in March 2014. The following units were built during Phase I: steel-structured boiler plant, buildings for transformers, turbines, central administration and electric appliances, pump station, cooling pond, coarse ash store and a 60-meter high staircase.

Phase II comprised the building designed for fuel preparation, incl. a 3,000 m2 industrial floor, monolithic reinforced concrete structures for timber and coal store and the wood chip plant. We co-operated with a consortium partner during the implementation of the first two phases. In October 2014, we were requested (already as an independent contractor) to complete the roof insulation and facade covering jobs of all the buildings and structures erected during the first two phases. In that Phase III, Grabarics Constructions Ltd. was responsible for covering the facade of every building, irrespective of whether it had been built by Grabarics Constructions Ltd. or other contractors. The respective work was finished in summer of 2015.

The primary purpose of the Prinzhorn Holding project was to enable the Dunaújváros-based plant to ensure its own low-cost heat and electric energy supply and to contribute to the considerably increased use of renewable energy resources in Hungary. The power plant shall utilize biomass and coal received from the region, in addition to the wastes recycled from Hamburger Hungária's own paper factory.
